I just got my Squeezebox Classic and I already really like it. The packaging and installation was perfect and really simple. To play music it requires a computer running (streaming) the music through Squeezecenter. I like the fact that the producers distribute Squeezecenter as open source and also cross all platforms, it gives credibility.
I run Squeezecenter 7.1 on a old laptop running Ubuntu Hardy and the install was really simple; just adding a new repository according to the instructions on the slim devices site and install through Synaptic.
One of the main reasons for getting the Squeezebox was the reviews of the output sound. I can confirm that it sounds really good and clean. Compared to my laptop sound output it’s a giant leap.
I use last.fm quite a lot in my Amarok and it is only included in Squeezecenter if you live in US, UK or Germany. It took a while to understand the limitation since it’s not really in the official information -and I spent some good time trouble shooting my set-up. There are a few ways around this if you Google a bit.
I’m pro the Squeezebox.
