A real good ROM. A few glitches below -but no show stoppers.

I Flashed:
- 1.0.1 ROM
- Hotfix #1, Hotfix #2, Hotfix #3, Hotfix #4, Hotfix #5

• The APN file has one problem for my carrier (Telia, Sweden), the MMS setting has port 9201 and it should be 8080 (even though official info is port 9201).
• When selecting locale Swedish there seems to be some problems, one is that searching for ’sushi’ in dial-up dialogue does not work (works fine with English locale set).
• The camera fails to start (resolved by re-start) has occurred once i 2 days.

I recommend the ROM

First version of the Villain 5.4 ROM was a bit shaky to initial-boot, but worked after a 2nd try. The ROM is real solid. A few glitches, like Friend Stream, didn’t work at first -BUT were corrected through the new OTA update channel. The OTA updates, by the way, works real well!

OTA update = Over The Air update.. Meaning you get ROM updates and patches over your wireless connection. No PC required

Google Maps Navigation, which was a problem in 5.3 is fixed and is working. Apart from that feature-wise the ROM is equal to 5.3 in my test in previous post.

The only problem now is that popularity seems to hit the Villain site hard and it’s not coping with the traffic it seems. Bad uptime. However there are alternative sites like the XDA developers forum.

Once again, fantastic work by the community.

Villain 5.3 functionality results so far. Google navigation was broken due to patch package for Live Wallpapers. After a re-flash NOT applying the Rosie patch Navigation works. The ROM is real fast and seems great so far!

I’m now staying on 5.3 on my phone and will test more.

The current official firmware of HTC Hero is based on Android 1.5 which was released in April-May 2009 timeframe -meaning its almost 1 year old. In this business that is a long time.

The Android 2.1 firmware was released somewhere around January 2010. It enables you to install Google search by voice, Google Goggles and other apps.

I don’t really think you’re supposed to do this from the HTC perspective. A simplified description of what it means to flash custom firmware is;

• Update the core bootloader of the phone to enable some more start-up features
• Root, or “unlock” the phone
• Nandroid backups, a custom, very efficient way of backing up your complete phone.
• Flashing new firmware or operating system versions (or radio firmware)

Worth noting is that according to “Internet information” when you go back to flash a real HTC rom through the HTC sync toolset you reset both bootloader, root and firmware to the original state.

Radio firmware I’ve updated to (63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26)
Updates to the core radio features of the phone; GSM, GPS, wireless network etc. Making mistakes while flashing radio firmware can break (Brick) your phone permanently.

Fifa 10 is really stepping it up now. They have a world EA Sports Fifa community in Beta and it looks really promising.

Through the web you can check out the real time popularity of teams in the console game. Logging in also connects your own contribution in the contest.

Through the console you get real time updates to your favorite teams and league tables. As I understand you can also play the RL league games on your console. I got to check this out..

What kind of possibilities does this open up? It will be exciting to follow the evolving features..

There seems to be issues with the combination of Plex and the new Snow Leopard release for Mac OS X.

In the Plex Forum there are a number of threads for Snow Leopard issues and workarounds.

The Plex homepage also states a official summary of the issues.

My experience is that some streams in the free App Store, like Joost for example, works fine and some of them, like SVT and ViaSat Play, are not working.

Lets hope for a new more stable release of Plex for Mac OS X 10.6.x..

By chance the Exchange server was upgraded today (!) and the integration from Snow Leopard to Exchange works like a charm!
